This is awesome. The "deleted calibration" thing doesn't really fit at all, having evolved from things not going quite as expected, then ending up with doing more reading. Usually if things aren't calibrated they don't output much of anything useful. Also, I think you'd end up back in the science phase redoing the calibration as a consequence. Also forgot the offshoot of discovering something completely unanticipated like penicillin or teflon, and the fact that successful scientist usually can publish 100s of papers. I still think scientist believe in the mainstream notion of science despite the reality.

this is exactly how it happens

People too often think things happen so easily. Like last night I was watching that show where the guys buy an abandoned storage unit and then see if there is anything in there to sell. Many people might see that show and think, COOL!! Free money. But how often do you think they buy a unit and there is nothing but crap in there. Same thing with Science experiments. It's never than easy.

I teach high school kids, would LOVE to see a version of this that is "school acceptable" (i.e. all of the "f word" references are removed. Public school, ya know?

I totally agree. Research is the best environment to develop manic-depressive disorder... it turns your personality into something weared that makes you want to keep on doing research on psychiatric disorders...

Falta el componente trepa-parásito que alterna el subirse a tu chepa o pone palos en tus ruedas dependiendo del viento que sople.

I miss parasites which alternate getting on top of your shoulders or throwing a spanner in your works depending on the wind that blows.

I think the "Science in Reality" is very true. People don't realize how many blind alleys and dead ends scientists run into after huge amounts of work. Discoveries often don't come easily.

    This is awesome.

Shut the f*ck up, Drunkard, Melvin deleting the calibration is SOFA KING TRUE! I hate working in groups, everyone is retarded but me!

I didn't really say the calibration part wasn't true at all. How Melvin deleting a calibration curve results in reading more science remains a mystery. Otherwise I agree with the thoughts of Dave Silvan.

It's pretty good (love the Amazing Results face ;}) but the last bit, the "go back to start" after "sweet! can publish" doesn't quite work for me. It makes it seem as though even publishable results send you back to the drawing board. In fact, what the cartoonist means is "publish, then painfully give birth to a new piece of work".
    8 months ago Alison responded:
Can someone get rid of the two duplicate copies of my post, please?

Nice, but they forgot a step at the end, after "maybe I can publish this" being : My conclusion is "my original hypothesis is wrong, but I don't have the real solution, thats the only thing my article is saying" or "I have a publishable result but will never be useful for mankin, and I just wasted 1/4 of my life on something completly useless"
